Has the original finish, and the chrysanthemum is intact. There's a bit of rust that should be cleanable. We identified it as an Arisaka Type 99, probably made in 1939. We were looking at some of his old things and remembered that we had an old rifle of his on the wall, with a tag he wrote on it that said "Won't Shoot." We pulled it down and identified it, and now I'm interested in restoring it and perhaps shooting it. He was an Army Colonel, a veteran of three wars, and a Pearl Harbor survivor. Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of my father-in-law's death. Great to have a forum for California gun enthusiasts. Any help is appreciated.Hello, new to the forum. The cleaning rod is missing, but it looks like everything else is as it should be as far as I know. The bolt locks up tight and the bore is clean. Neighbor said that it hadn't been fired since it was brought back, just sat it his dad's office as a trophy.

I doubt it would have been issued like that, but as I said, I don't really know anything about these guns. He said that it's always been like that, so he said he thinks it was captured like that. Front and rear halves are matching, but the bolt numbers don't match the rest of the gun. It was brought back by my neighbor's father and still has the Mum intact. I don't know much about these guns, and I'm seeing prices all over the place so I'm having a hard time determining what this one's value is. As cool as it is, I'm not a collector of Japanese weapons and would rather pass it along to someone that appreciates it more. I inherited it from a family friend along with a few other guns.
